The Lambayeque regional governor, Mr. Humberto Acuña declared to the media --regarding Cañariaco Project-that he is in favor to encourage all mining investment that is environmentally and sociallyresponsible.
Mr. Acuña pointed out that the investment project needs to have an Environmental Impact Investigation that shows it will not generate any conflict with the community, and added that is necessary to get important income from mining fees to promote long term social projects in the community.
He also added that in 2017 the Lambayeque Regional Government had a budget of only $2M soles, which is too small an amount to generate any significant infrastructure project in the region.
"With this budget we can just pay for ordinary administrative expenses. That's why is important to get income from mining projects that will contribute to the resources of Lambayeque region".
