MEM closes workgroup to make way for the Monitoring Committee
The Vice Minister of Mines, Guillermo Shinno Huamaní, greeted the success of the Work Roundtable for the Development of Cañaris, Salas and Incahuasi, which achieved an investment commitment of a total of 87,880,467 soles (approx. $31 million USD.) soles for an array of public investment projects related to rural electrification, road infrastructure, irrigation, education, sanitation and housing.
Shinno Huamaní formally declared the working group as closed during a ceremony held today at the headquarters of the Regional Government of Lambayeque, an event that was attended by regional, municipal and local authorities in the region and from those districts.
He explained that since its installation in January 2013 until its completion in March, the Development Roundtable has managed to coordinate efforts with ministries and public organisms of the Central Government and the local authorities of Cañaris, Salas and Incahuasi as well as the Regional Government of Lambayeque for the viability and implementation of development projects in favour of the citizens of these jurisdictions who are considered amongst the poorest in the country.
"We wanted to bring the State closer to the poorest populations of these Lambayequean districts that have been neglected for a long time. The purpose is to develop a better quality of life for its citizens", he said.
This is with respect to an array of public investment projects related to rural electrification, construction of roads and bridges, road improvement, agricultural and educational infrastructure, and laying of potable water, sanitation and housing, among others, in the referred Lambayequean districts.
Overall, the amount of these projects total 60 million soles in Cañaris, 19 million soles in Salas and 8 million soles in Incahuasi.
Shinno Huamaní detailed that some projects have been already completed, others are under implementation and some are about to start, since they already count with the respective funding.
He indicated that four Follow Up and Monitoring Committees for the above mentioned array of projects have been formed in order to control and verify that the commitment made by the authorities of the Development Roundtable is met.
The Vice Minister Guillermo Shinno in representation of the titleholder of the Eleodoro Mayorga sector said that the Ministry of Energy and Mines will ensure that mining investment in the country complies with environmental standards and respects the culture of the people.
For his part, the Mayor of Salas, Horacio De la Cruz Silva, thanked the authorities of the Central Government for the implementation and the positive outcome of this dialogue - which has lasted one year and two months - and has allowed to finance important projects that will benefit the citizens of the three districts.
The representatives of the National Government and regional and local authorities agreed to highlight that the above-noted Development Roundtable has been a successful experience that should be replicated and transmitted as a reference of the possibility of a joint effort between the State, the communities and private enterprises in benefit of the development of the country.
As recalled, said Development Roundtable - which during its eleven sessions was chaired by MEM authorities - consisted of authorities and technicians of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the portfolios of Energy and Mines, Finance, Education, Health, Housing, Transportation and Communications , Agriculture, Social Inclusion, Environment and Culture.
In addition, by authorities of the Regional Government of Lambayeque, Ferreñafe municipalities and the districts of Cañaris, Salas and Incahuasi, as well as by leaders of civic organizations in these three jurisdictions, amongst others.
