2002 News

Candente Resource Corp. ("the Company") is pleased to announce that two new visible gold showings have been found on the Linear property. One of these showings occurs west of the Linear structure where gold has been known previously only to occur with sulphides not as visible gold.

Exploration on the Linear Property has commenced. Detailed mapping will be carried out to determine controls to the gold mineralization and delineate drill targets. Only limited geological mapping has been carried out on the property to date although gold mineralization has been found in twelve different showings and in forms ranging from high grade visible gold in quartz veins and breccia zones to wider zones of silicified sulfidic sedimentary rocks. The high grade zones include 93.6 grams per tonne (gpt) over 1 metre, 15.36 gpt over 2.7 metres and 42.9 gpt Au over a 7m by 10m area. The wider zones of silicified sedimentary rocks carry 1.1 gpt gold over 24 metres.

Exploration on the Company's other ten properties in Central Newfoundland will commence with prospecting in the same manner that lead to the discoveries on the Linear Property. A first pass inspection of these properties indicates that in several locations, gold mineralization occurs in structurally controlled zones in sedimentary rock packages including limestones and siliceous sediments, which are considered a favourable component to Carlin style mineralization. Sampling by previous explorationists shows gold values in the 1 to 2 gpt range in bedrock samples and 6 to 8 gpt range in till samples. Sulphide-bearing, fossiliferous limestone has been identified on one of the properties where gold is reported in lake sediment and till samples. This limestone looks identical to the limestone that occurs along the Mustang trend of Altius Resources (under option to Barrick), where Carlin-style mineralization is reported to occur.

Local prospectors Kevin Keats and Calvin Keats and local geologists Wilson Jacobs, P. Geo. and Peter Dimmell, P. Geo. are conducting the exploration programs for the Company. While being native Newfoundlanders, the exploration team has extensive experience both overseas and locally. In addition to the main team, exploration will be guided by other extremely experienced gold exploration professionals as Larry Kornze, P. Eng, Rod Kirkham, PhD, Art Freeze, P. Geo. and Derek Wilton Ph.D., P. Geo. Management considers the Company to be very fortunate to have such an experienced exploration team.
