Lions Club Eyeglasses

Lions Club International is a secular service organization with over 45,500 clubs and nearly 1.4 million members in 205 countries around the world.

For children, clear vision means a better education, healthier development and a better quality of life. For adults, it means greater employment opportunity and economic strength. For seniors it means less dependence on others.

Free eye glasses are supplied to all the needy in the District of Cañaris. These campaigns target schools and health centers. The trip to a population center big enough to support an eye doctor and the extra costs of diagnosis and the purchased price of eyeglasses puts this basic health service out of reach of the majority of families in the District of Cañaris.

Alta Copper has partnered with a Peruvian chapter of the international NGO "Club de Lionnes" to accompany the diagnostic and surgery campaigns of the Clinton Giustra Foundation's cataract campaigns in the area of Cañariaco. To date, with the services of the Club de Leones, we have supplied 316 pairs of eye glasses to children, adults and seniors.

These glasses will help children perform to their full capacity in and outside of academics. Many individuals will see an increase in their productivity and quality of life with these simple and basic gains in health and visual capability. These campaigns are very well received within the communities due to the significant and measurable impact.
